New Laptop :what do you recommend?
Hey guys! Seeing as I'm technologically challenged since forfeiting my youth (lots of time to bs around) in trade of maturation (working and not playing video games anymore), therefore slipping out of the know for whats good now, I need your help!
Macbook Air looked pretty damn sweet. but i dont know about that 13.5 in monitor. . anyone know if it'll get upgraded to a bigger screen?
the newer imac looked pretty sweet, 21 inch, sleek, but i prefer something more of a laptop.
personally, i like PC's.. but who makes a good pc thats as good/if not better than the Air? any suggestions? dells got some stuff, but theres little time for me to browse at work on Dell.. wondering if some of you tech savvy ppl could recommend whats tried and true.
thanks!
p.s. who else, is terribly bored, at work as i am haha.

Get yourself a new macbook. Buy a copy of windows xp, Unless you already have a fully licensed version. And have the best of both worlds.
Macbook air is sweet, but the fact that you'd have to plug in a dvd drive is a negative for me.
On the other end, some of the new Dell's are pretty decent. I have a Dell Latitude D630 for work and it is nice. Screen is crisp.
But I love my Macbook for personal use.

i would go with a dell xps or asus laptop. dell is very good for the price, you can have a nicely configured laptop well under 1000 if you wait for deals.
if you go the mac route, i would go with a macbook or macbook pro.
not to mention the lackluster specs..
then again you don't really need a high end laptop if you're not using any cpu intensive applications.

I'm a big fan of Dell D series notebooks. I support ~100 of them and I see very few hardware failures. They are definitely a good buy though not as "sexy" as a Macbook. Did I also mention they are faster.

It also depends on what you plan on using it for. I use my macbook for everything, but don't do any MAJOR cpu intensive work. Music, movies, web surfing etc. No games although it could run them fine.
Most intensive app I use is Photoshop CS2, but only photo touch up etc. Nothing too intense. I also burn dvd's with my super drive, and encode rip dvds onto my ipod.l Both of which work flawlessly and fairly quickly.
In general if you're going to do anything more intensive than that, a desktop is probably a more economical route. But really, a mac obviously has a "premium" attached to it compared to a similarly spec-ed Dell or other brand PC.

This is going to spur a PC/Mac debate... yay....
I wouldn't recommend a Mac if you're trying to save money, you're buying the name.
HOWEVER, I would recommend the Macbook for your price range. Stay away from the Air, it's lack of features and high price tag are not what you're looking for
Dell XPS line is nice, and you spec the hell out them to get exactly what you need and still spend less than other computer.
The Latitude 600 line is solid and it's what we're using here at work, too. Though unlike Vu I support only a handful and not 100+
I would stay away from the Sony line, since, like Apple, you're also paying a premium for the name.
Asus also has great stuff, you'll need to look around to find the model you like. Cruise sites like newegg.com for reviews and pricing.
If you're a PC person, then stick with PC. Someone is going to bite my head off and say "mac's are easier" but whatever, I'm not having that argument in this thread.
There are plenty of great PC options and much more choices for features at your price point.
Also, if you're going to use this at work then check with your IT guys for what you all support... that could easily be a deciding factor for you
