Default Need some help/suggestions

Hey everyone,

So today I decided to install an exhaust gasket. When I was taking everything off everything was good, But when I put the exhaust back on one of the bolts that connects the cat back to the cat was stripped. When I took it off there was the normal amount of resistance but when I tried to put it back on the nut would just turn with little resistance. I looked at the bolt and the thread was pretty much smoothed out. Not sure what to do. I am thinking of just getting a testpipe. I used to ride motorcycles without cats and liked the smell of the exhaust, I just want to make sure I would cause to much attention.

I was wondering:

Since the bolts are pressed into the cat, is there a way to take them out and buy new ones?

Would I be better off buying a testpipe or highflow cat instead of replacing bolt?

Will high flow cat smell?

Does anyone that lives near vallejo have a highflow cat or testpipe that I can smell?

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any help

You can hammer out the existing stud and either replace it with another splined stud or get a slightly smaller bolt

If the cat is still on the car then I would use a c-clamp to press it out vs hammering it out.
If it's off the car then just do what Vu said.

if you run the testpipe... you will smell it... I have testpipe + hks exhaust. I'm pretty sure if chp pulled me over, he would know I'm running testpipe...

Thanks guys,

I ended up removing the cat and using a hammer. When I hit it with the hammer there was some fiber/dust looking stuff that came from in between the cat and the heat shield... What is that stuff?

I'm running a HFC and like the response from it without the smell. I used to run a test pipe on my evo and I didnt like the smell. For some reason the exhaust fumes went into the cabin at a stop light with windows down.

That stuff is just the insulation to help keep the heat shield cooler. I'm not sure what material it is but I would play it safe and try not to inhale it.
