On the OEM rating, my mistake, I didn't realize the stock tires were rated at 140!
It means absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately, it's the only standardized testing off which manf. are offering wear ratings. We'll have some hard numbers from street mileage soon enough. It's definately not completely irrelevant, just a number that the manf. feels comfortable enough to give us. I know I know, I've stated it's not really relevant before, and I'm looking at the RS-3's showing minimal wear in 2 track days and 3k miles myself. Just can't overstate yet..

I was a bit suprised that the OEM RE050 was rated this low by Bridgestone, my experience with them is limited so new news for me. I've seen two different numbers for tires (Z1, for example) before. Presumably through use of a different compound or hard numbers from street use in mass coming back to them and them revising their numbers accordingly. Never did actually find out why Dunlop did that in the middle of production.

They can't be considered standardized when manufacturers are free to put any number on the side of the tire they wish.

Also keep in mind the rating on the RE050 was assigned back in '04 and hasn't been to the best of my knowledge updated to reflects its current position within Bridgestone's lineup.

The tread wear rating can only be compared to the manufacturers lineup and should not be compared between different manufacturers.

BTW

Thread is what makes up the clothing you wear.

Tread is the raised pattern on the tire that meets the road surface.

Thread is also on the inside of your tire tread.

Try sonic MS in mt view. They will do tire rack prices plus shipping and labor, and custom alignments are $80

I can't even believe you would even post this comment. You know how irrelevant this is.
Was being lazy didn't feel like explaining it to Anishiwa again and since he was happy enough to mention treadwear I figured I'd let him know that stock was also 140. I was by no means comparing the two.

It might help makeup the carcas of the tire but thread is not in the tread.

As for the width on the fronts, the thread width is 6.7" on the OEM and 8" on the RS-3. The HTR-Z III has a thread with of 7.6", so Mac's statement is justified. Not really too much of a difference going to the 225 on the RS-3.

Biggest differences for you then are the $ (which is nearly a $25/tire differential, so $100 total) and mileage.

Oh yeah, RS-3 over Z1's any day of the week. I think Mac will at least agree to that.
really, rs3 over z1 even in wet? hm i pmed you! you never got back to me
