Like the other member had mentioned, the gift exchange is a good place to start. Call Edwards jewlery; just make an appointment and they'll let you in. They've been in buisness for over 28 years so they know what they are doing. Edwards was able to get the Stone size, shape, cut, and clarity I wanted when I was looking. 2 weeks is just the begining, compared to the amount of time I had spent calling and searching.

Now, Bluenile is on the high side BUT if you are looking for a rare diamond that's the place you'll find it.

Don't forget to have it appraised and insured. The amount I paid was half of the appraised value.

Good luck and have fun.

Tiffany's isn't worth the price imo. You'll pay xx amount and get one that's smaller insize and lower in quality, but you get the brand Tiffany.

Like Vu said. Coloress and flawless is rare and hard to find. It's almost not worth it to pay extra over the amount of a vvs1 or vvs2. The difference between FL and IF is almost negligible from a distance and without a mangifying piece in your eye. Colorwise, i think an F or G is fine (low colorless or high near colorless).

My sister's ring was about 1.54 carats, vvs1 or vvs2 might even be vs (can't remember) and F or G in color and it was like 15-20k. Can't remember the exact mount. Princess cut. A good jeweler would be able to look at a diamond that you brought in, and tell you the clarity and color of it w/o looking at any of the paperwork.

Make sure you get one that's gia certified.

I know of a jeweler that's in the asian plazas in sj (yeah that sounds bad, but the guy has been in the business for awhile and has served my family with high end watches and diamonds for years now. knowing how picky my family is, i doubt my mother would go to some ghetto dude for her jewelery). I also know of one in SF that can do customized rings etc.

Take your pick and i'll pass you the info.
I actually met your sister for a little bit.

She came into work once. Cathy was showing her around. She's really pretty. Cathy's brother is a lucky guy. This was before she got engaged.

ohh yeah.. this was awhile back then.. how'd you make the correlation that she was my sister?
Well you came by once to talk to mlo while we were talking to him and Cathy pointed out that you were her sister in-law. I then later recognized you by the car you drive. Connection figured out.

10-15K will get you a nice ring (for the wife-to-be) if you have a hookup...

for yourself a plain band (white gold/platinum?) should do?

Let me kno Charlie, my mom can go to giftcenter with you! she loves going there!!

the bottom line is the ring your give your wife to be is a portrait of you, its your reflection, some create masterpieces and others get by with just a little paint.
