I think that a seat and a roll bar is a good middle grounds for retaining safety on the street and increasing safety on the track.

Legalities, total time on daily driving vs. tracking, other bad drivers, and all other topics brought into this conversation add a layer of complicated arguable unknowns. But the fact is, you're going to be safer on the track with a seat, a roll bar, and a helmet. And there is no evidence, studies, or statistical data that says you're any better or worse off on the street with a rollbar and an FIA approved seat.

Total noob question here:

What is the broomstick test? By what I'm reading, being 6'2" in a stock setup won't pass? :/

The broomstick tests is a pass/fail test where you draw an imaginary line from the top of the a-pillar to the top of the roll-hoop. If your head crosses that imaginary line, you fail. Lowering the seat position, or raising the roll-hoop protection height are the two most common fixes for this.

It is your safety. You have to decide if you want to go with a roll bar + harness + helmet or seatbelt + airbag. It's mutually exclusive. Running that rollbar w/o a harness and a helmet on the street makes the rollbar a hazard. Driving on the street w/ a harness and helmet blows away the ability of the airbag system to work as designed + will likely negate your insurance coverage. Pick where you want to maximize your safety and liability, street or track. I pick street and assume greater risk on track.
I believe a FULL cage is dangerous on the street. I also believe that a roll hoop (rear half of a cage) that is properly fitted is perfectly safe on the street with a factory harness, if designed correctly.

Disclaimer - I have no data to back this up other than what I have seen in person. I have been involved with HPDE and racing (2002 to current @ once a month)

I've looked into the BYS, but if I remember correctly its like $300, which is outrageous. For that much money, a Buddy Club rail and F1Spec seat look like more bang for the buck (and maybe lower, too?).

FYI I will be at the Militpas meet tomorrow night from 9-10 for those who want to come check out the backyard special seat rails. Look for a white ap2v2 with invidia Q300 exhaust and missing antenna.
