My Weekend Project

My Weekend Project
Last week I splurged on LEDs for the gauge cluster on my TL. It was a little intimidating at first because I've never ripped apart the interior of ANY car. To my surprise, it was a whole lot easier than I thought.
Here's the dash and the trusty laptop. I actually laid down newspaper on the trunk so I wouldn't scratch it.
Here it is all gutted out.
No cluster!
Here it is removed. The odometer bulbs were actually really simple to replace. The 5 LEDs for the gauges, were a little more difficult because I had to remove the actual gauge faces to put them in. They were too big to fit in through the rear.
Here is the end result. The auto night exposure on the old Sony is a little bit too long. I'm too lazy to figure out how to manually set it so it comes out perfect.
Next weekend, I'll have a little surprise for the s2k!

very nice...I used to own a 2003 Tl-s and am a member on Acurainspired.com and acuraworld.com
Did you post pics on those sites before? Looks familiar.
Great Job btw,...its a huge pita with all those LEDs needing to be soldered. Looks dope!

Thanks guys!
Rhayward, the display on the LS is doing just fine. It's a 92 with a 115k miles and still going on strong.
SojuSoulja, I've visited those forums before but not often. Every now and then I browse Acurazine (what used to be acura-tl.com). And those LEDs actually were just plug and play. The swap for the clock, climate control, radio, and all other misc lit buttons would require soldering.
itS2Krazy, I wonder... It would be nice to have a different color gauge cluster.
Here's an opportunity for those of you who are interested in modding your gauge cluster (if this is possible?) and perhaps making some money along the way!
