moving to san francisco..
hey everyone
i've accepted a job offer in san francisco and will be joining the bay area s2ki group now.
i'm starting the first week of december and will be staying with some friends until i can find a good place to live. i don't know anything about norcal or san francisco, and i don't want to end up moving into a bad area, so if you guys have any advice or are actually looking for a roommate, let me know!
my job is going to be in downtown sf in the heart of the financial district.
i'm looking to pay up to $900/month for a good room, so if you guys can help me out, i appreciate it!!
also, don't forget to invite me out to some bay area s2ki meets
from socal,
simon

up to 900??? ummm...u will have a far commute or be living in the ghetto at that rent level.
marina, northbeach, lower pack heights, haight, possibly soma (but its more expensive.)
if u cant go anyhire than 900, maybe u can look into living in china town.
also, dont expect to have a parking spot for anything less than 1100.
place to avoid...mission, tenderloin, bayview, hunters point. i highly recomend u visit where u are going to live as there are "projects" disbursed throughout the city.

if u consider living in the richmond or sunset, u can do it for 900 and possibly have a garage. but u will have a 45-hour ride to and from work on the luzer cruzer.

I'm assuming you're not looking to rent a place by yourself for $900. You can probably share a two-bedroom with someone for that price, give or take. Or you might be able to find an in-law unit in the Sunset or Richmond. But forget about getting a garage for that price though.

Alright! More SoCal to NorCal! I just recently moved up here as well. $900 is tough to find a decent place. I ended up settling for $1000 a month in Oakland. Not the best area but no ghetto which is good. San Francisco for $900 a month...doesn't exisit. Good luck! I work in Union Square area.

what can you guys tell me about richmond? there seem to be a lot of affordable rooms there. is it safe?
rski36 - i'm actually going to be staying in san mateo with some friends for a few weeks until i find the right place to move into. it just seems too far from my work, plus i kind of want to live in/closer to the city
