it really depends where you live in sf.
i parked my s outside for over a year in sunset and richmond and i never had a single problem.
i parked it on the street overnight for a week in western addition and it got backed into twice during that week.
i'd recommend parking it in a garage if you can though.. the weather sucks in sf. you'll always be washing it otherwise.
you can easily live without a car in sf too, so if you can leave it at your parents' or a friend's home, try living without your car for a month or so. you get used to the public transit.

true on the washing car part. once your done, its probably dirty again within hours. haha
if your going to be living in residential areas of SF, you wont have a problem with parking your s worrying about bumper tapping, the spaces are evenly spread from driveways, you will have to worry about dt/ct parking though.
as for breakin/theft, just try not to have anything in the car thats visible, and if your car is stock, there less chance people will really mess with it unless they want oem parts..

buying an rsx or civic would have the same if not higher break in rate (not including top slashes). You wouldn't really have to worry about it if i had a carolla like trainwreck said up top.

if your parents live in Irvine, leave the car there for now.
after living in SF for a month, if you decide that you can live without the car, sell it then. It's much more expensive to sell then buy a car later.
also, consider investing in a hard top.

Keep your car somewhere safe for now, move to S.F., then see how your living arrangements complement owning an s2000 without too much worry. If you feel its safe you can always bring your car with you.
