Default Motor swap help!

My 2000 Si is eating up serious oil, on average I'm down to 1 quart of oil after 1500 miles. Just talked to Honda today, and they suggest it's better to get a new motor instead of replacing all the associated parts to fix the problem. Now I am looking more towards GSR engine instead another B16 engine. Any suggestion on where I can get the motor from? Please HELP!!

Honda Heaven, San Jose. Give them a call and ask for a long block/shortblock with low mileage. I don't remember the guys name. If they don't have anything in stock, there are some other options... just post on here what you find out from them.

Consumption at a rate that high (although not uncommon in higher mileage cars.. or if your name is Vu and you own a yellow S2000) is more than a valve stem seal leak or more than likely something to do with the shortblock. (I've seen our old 95 Avalon that I donated to my sister than to a friend go through a decent bit of oil due to valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket. Classic on the Supra was the crankshaft end seal on the output end.. hard as hell to see)

Did Honda do any diagnostics (check the spark plug for fouling - (from oil being burnt)? Leak down test? compression check? let you know that one of the cylinders may be scored?.. etc? or give you a list of what parts may be necessary?

State your mileage and maybe pay for an hours diagnostics with your trusted shop to determine what may be causing this before hunting down a new motor. Might save you a decent amount of dough.

G'luck.

The motor has about 110K miles and I recently did a leak down test at Red Zone Performance and they said all cylinders are performing within the spec but the one of the spark plugs are ready to be changed soon, which I recently changed about 6 mo ago. Might have to change the valve seal...but then I don't want to spend more money if they do not fix the problem...

110k is not that much on a b16.

When you pull out your spark plug wires, are any of them coated in oil? Bad O-rings between the valve cover and head can cause oil to leak past the plugs.

Are you sure your burning the oil and not leaking it?

Sorry about that.. I goofed around a bit and forgot to check this thread..

Okie dokie.. so their tellin you that your compression is

That's great news!! That usually means that your piston rings and your cylinder walls are fine.

The bad.. eh, well, this is where it's best to consult your mechanic and have him check over for any obvious gasket related leaks.

If that doesn't bring anything good up, get his opinion about picking up a used/rebuilt head vs. fixing what he thinks may be causing the problem.

I'd have a couple guesses on this, but hell.. this is the internet, don't take it as the gospel. I would bet that your valve guides are worn or your valve guide seals are worn/cracked etc. Since it's an aluminum head, I'm not exactly familiar with that head... but I think you can relatively easily drive out the original guide and have a new one installed.

Try that mechanic and keep this stuff in mind.. let us know how it pans out.

Again.. G'luck!
