highway runnin is different than stop and go and also tracking. seems like all they did was a highway test. nonetheless cool vid
They did a similar video on their EP formula with a Las Vegas Taxi fleet and 15K oil changes. Similar results.

awesome, did not know that. my dads always been running mobil 1 on all the cars and none of them has ever had problems. recently he switched to conventional and still everything is good. Hell, he even uses walmart oil. of course i dont run that on the S but every other car we do. oil tech sure has improved over the years

I like M1 and my "S" doesn't use any/very little oil. I still wonder why the same year car with similar miles and one will use more oil than the other one.

13 thousand km (8 thousand miles) oil changes rolling on a wheel at what appears to be 65kmh (40mph) and under 2k rpm isn't anything to write to mom about.

Agree... Also climate environment and everyday startup plays a roll on how long an engine can last

You think our motor would do that?

You guys realize that in Europe the same cars have longer oil change intervals and they've reduced the intervals here because of fears over lawsuits from customers who push the limits.

Many BMWs/Mercs have 25K oil changes.

I work at a lube / oil change shop, and we get cars everyday that are over due for their 3000 interval, people come in around 4,5,6,7,8 even 12k miles over their 3k intervals. From experience, those who are way over due, have oil that are completely black. It actually requires about 2-3 quarts of fresh oil to get clean oil down the the drain during a flush. Many of those who decide to do 10k service intervals tends to have black, sludged up oil, sludged oil caps and multiple leaks from valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets and the rear seals. Those who are frequent customers have no issues with leaks most of the time. Many who tend to strectch their oil changes are mostly bmw, mercedez, volkswagon, gm and even hondas... In my experience, it is very rare to have a toyota to have any signs of overdue oil, 12k in 1 oil change, oil is still golden yellow.. Rumor has it, that car companies recomends longer oil service intervals to cut down fees that government charges when in production. (assuming its waste hazardous fees) Only an idiot follows the factory maintence log. Every car experiences different driving condition, whats needed is needed, dont wait until your car tells you it need it. You are the driver so dont let the car tell you what to do..

Are those the BMW/Mercs that we see here, or are those the mystical EDM (usually diesel) models that never make it across the pond? I mean, I've never heard of a BMW making it 15k without having to be in for something broken anyway, figured they'd change the oil while they're at it at least.

Since most of their cars sold in Europe are diesels, yes. They appear to be built to higher build quality for the Euro market. Most cabs in Europe are Merc E class diesels. While we get crappy fords.

Correction .38 stated 13,000 mile oil changes.

I think 1million KM is a lot of miles, high load or not.
