Default Missing Plate in SF now $100 fine?

Anyone catch the news on this(Chronicle today)? They are raising parking fines in SF and the one that is going up MOST is for a missing plate--from $25 to $100. Does this mean no plate on the car, or can you get cited for this if you are only missing your front plate? If so, OUCH!

If you get the ticket just go to the nearest police station and get it signed off (once you put your plate back on). After that, all you need to do is pay a 10 dolla processing fee at 850 Bryant. Just a little inside tip, leave your front plate in the trunk. That way if a cop pulls you over, just play ignorant ("Uhh, I never knew you had to have it in front of the car, Officer."). Latez!

Or maybe say, "Somebody banged up my old front plate bracket in the Tenderloin (or whatever area you frequent), and they didn't have any new brackets at the dealer. But I do have the new plate in the trunk ready to install, officer."

Does San Francisco have photo-enforced traffic lights? If so, that's probably the reason they're getting more hard-nosed about front plates--if you don't have one, they have no way of catching you. That's what's happening in the LA area. Here in San Diego, the whole concept is being challenged in court. Hopefully, we'll see the end of this "big-brother" devices and be able to drive front-plate-free without worry.

Gestapos (as they are called in the UK) are mounted in most of the heavy traffic areas including intersections where red light running is rampant... namely SoMa.

Yep, we have plenty of red-light cameras. Damn California and its fleecing of its citizens.
