ok so ill make this short and to the punch , i miss shifted on the frwy about 65-70 mph i went to 2nd instead of 4th. being that i have the j's clutch and flywheel set up in my car it all happened really fast and hard i pulled it out of gear as soon as i could react. i drove for maybe a half mile then pulled over it was idling ruff and sounded like a wrx or something. its throwing misfire codes for 2,3,4. my question is whats the most likely damage done? valve clearances bent valve cracked retainers. and if there is anyone willing to take a look at it i would be very greatfull!

You most likely cracked your intake retainers. Don't continue to drive the car! If your not comfortable inspecting the retainers have someone do it for you. Most likely all you will need (should) do is swap out the intake retainers for the AP2 version and you will be good to go.

i did the same thing 3 years ago, go thru my thread and here are the pics that u most likely will see in your engine

(your clutch and flywheel should be fine)


dont fix this engine, get a new one its 2300 brand new from dealer (short block) and get a good condition used head

At the very least you bent a valve. At the very worst you have cylinder wall damage.

In both cases, the head's coming off.

Why do you say at least there is a bent valve?

I have seen many S2000's over rev and not bend a valve, just crack retainers. You need to pull the valve cover and inspect to really determine whats going on.

If you say so... but while I'm in there I wouldn't count on it anyways and just replace the valve(s). A mechanical overrev can vary in damages (im glad we agree this much.) but I've personally never seen it just crack retainers. I've seen gradual wear etc. crack the AP1 retainers but that's just in my experience. I don't particularly care what your experience (no offense, but it is legitimately of no concern to me), but given the situation and symptoms of damages present, I would venture to say that it doesn't matter. If the OP wants to just swap the retainers in-car without removing the head, that's his decision, but if it were me I'd happily pay for the headgasket and inspect things individually after they've been disassembled.
