That isn't the object.

First of, relay don't count because it's not ALL YOU. Second he swam one of the legs of both relay, but he wasn't the anchor. If he was the fastest he would have been the anchor instead.
If anything, I think the relays are more representative of what the Olympics are about. It's all about the effort of the whole team, and not just one individual.

False logic to assume the fastest swimmer is always the last swimmer, and a common mistake. Phelps actually prefers to go first, which he did in both freestyle relays, include the 4 x 200m where he is the world record holder.

Really? So they all just swam for fun? If you are not competing to be the best or the fastest then you don't belong or wont make it to this stage.

I don't wish to get into the debate about whether Michael Phelps is the greatest Olympian, or if it is too easy for swimmers to pick up medals, but when I was growing up in my home country, I swam competitively for over ten years and also played water polo. All the strokes and events are completely different from one another in that you might be strong in one, and very weak in another. I competed on a national level in the 50m and 100m freestyle, but sucked in all others. During peak competition times, I trained 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. What those Olympic athletes achieve is quite remarkable.

And yes, it was boring to do, exceedingly boring. For me, martial arts was much, much more fun.
