Long Term Feeler: Night time tour of Alcatraz
http://www.parksconservancy.org/visi...nightpress.php
"Best Tour of the Bay Area" Award
From city shores on a sunny day, Alcatraz looks almost pretty. Even if you get up close on a day tour of the former federal prison, the sunshine sparkling on the bay (and on the tourists) can rob this spot of its forbidding past. The Alcatraz Night Tour, however, makes it clear that this really was a place where bad people were put away for good. In addition to offering an interesting headset tour, guides turn over different parts of 'The Rock' in the evenings; sign up for a tour of the caged-in kitchen that's lit only by lanterns you carry. Lift yours high and imagine you can still see the blood from the murder that's being described by your guide in the chilly dark.
-San Francisco Magazine, "Best of the Bay," Summer 2001
The Alcatraz Night Tour operates year-round, Thursday-Monday evenings. Tickets are $23.50 for adults, $20.75 for ages 12-17 and 62+, $14.25 for ages 5-11, and free for children under age 5. The evening includes roundtrip ferry transportation, a live boat narration, a guided tour from Dock to Cellhouse, the Cellhouse Audio Tour, a keepsake souvenir brochure, and a variety of special programs and presentations offered only at night.
Proceeds from the Alcatraz Night Tour support preservation and restoration projects on Alcatraz and throughout the Golden Gate National Parks.
