Howdy,
I just renewed and am paying $700 for the next 6 months. This is up a little bit from the last time...I forget exactly how much it's up, but the increase is more than $20 and less than $50.
I'm insured through Mercury, and this is for my '02 S2000. It's listed as a daily driver of 30k annual miles. I have $100k/$300k/$100k coverage with a $500 collision deductible and $100 comprehensive deductible. I'm 25 years old with no points on my record, and also live in San Jose. I have the good driver and engineer's discount.
Hope that helps...your rate doesn't seem all that horrible. You can probably do better with other providers, but it seems within reason.

How far you travel to and from work makes a difference. Also if you have a second, less expensive vehicle, list that as your primary driver.
I was paying $3100 a year with Progressive. Obviously that was a rip off, so I moved to AAA and I now pay $1500 a year. That includes full coverage and two vehicles.

I've got my insurance through American Express/Costco. I've got my CRX listed as my primary and the S listed as weekend car. I've paying less than $800 a year for both cars with $250 deductibles.

The claims people were easy to reach and quick to respond, so that was good. Unfortunately, the body shop they recommended was a big POS (they tore my soft top), and the adjustor gave me some crap at first (he improved later on though).
All in all, the experience could've been better, but it was decent. IMO, Mercury is worth the lower premium.
I was previously insured through Farmers, and the claims process was about the same.
