Le Mans Racecars to appear at San Jose
The Sixth Annual Mini Le Mans of San Jose on Wednesday, Oct. 13, will give Downtown San Jose office workers a sample of what fans can expect at the Audi Sports Car Championships taking place Oct. 15-17 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Drivers and cars from the American Le Mans Series and the SPEED World Challenge, North America's premier sports car racing series, will put on a demonstration during the noon hour on a temporary racetrack around Downtown San Jose's Plaza de Cesar Chavez.
The cars and drivers will begin arriving at 10 a.m. in preparation for the green flag at noon to start the 30-minute demonstration around Plaza de Cesar Chavez, a downtown park popular with office workers at lunchtime.
The cars will be running in a counter-clockwise direction on the inside lane of Market St., as it circles the park. The outer lanes will remain open to traffic, but will be separated from the race cars by stanchions.
Following the demonstration laps, fans will be able to talk to the drivers, get autographs and check out the race cars up close.

- #66 The Racers Group Porsche 911 GT3 and drivers Patrick Long and Cort Wagner
SPEED World Challenge
- #71 Tri-Point Motorsports Mazda 6 and driver Shauna Marinus
- #16 Team Cadillac CTS-V and driver Max Angelilli
- #13 Protomotive Mazda 3 and driver Scott Bradley, of San Jose
The Mini Le Mans of San Jose precedes the Audi Sports Car Championships Oct. 15-17 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The event features the season finales for both the American Le Mans Series and the SPEED Channel-sponsored World Challenge.
The American Le Mans Series will make history in its season finale on Saturday, Oct. 16, when for the first time in the 47-year history of Laguna Seca, cars will race into the darkness at the venerable race track. The series finale will start at 4 p.m. and conclude four hours later at 8 p.m., running the last hour in darkness.
The SPEED World Challenge will conclude its season on Sunday, Oct. 17, with 50-minute races for both its Touring (10:25 a.m.) and GT (1 p.m.) class finales.
Support events for the weekend include the Star Mazda Series season finale, as well as races for the SFR SCCA Mazda Miata Challenge and the World Super Karts, featuring former Grand Prix motorcycle champions Eddie Lawson and Wayne Rainey.
Fan activities for the weekend include a free Friday night Waborita Island fan party from 5-8 p.m., featuring free admission to the circuit after 3 p.m., as well as several driver autograph sessions and American Le Mans Series team-led tech talks and the chance for fans to drive their cars for a lap of the circuit..
