Default Key replacement?

Has anyone ever had to replace the master key and wireless transmitter for their S? The dealership quoted me about $300 to get them replaced.

I've heard that some "smart" keys can be replaced at a hardware store, but it's dependent on the make, model and year of the car.

My car is a theft salvage. I remember having to take it to the dealership and get new door locks and keys put in because the damn key for the ignition wasn't the same as the ones for the doors. I don't remember the exact price, but thought I would mention this in case maybe you've got a Frankenstein car like mine.

You could try ACE hardware. They offer this service for less than dealership prices.

I'll check it out. Rob-2, they quoted me 130 for the key and 160 for the wireless transmitter, I should just ask them about the price breakdown I suppose.

Ask them if the $160 for the wireless transmitter includes programming it for the car.

Anyone know if this guy is still at the great mall?

I FRIGGIN HATE OUR KEYS! I wish someone would just get around to standardizing FOB components and shells so any guts can go in any number of choice containers.

If you buy this key ($130): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Hond...item2a1c618ad2 <-- I have a 2006

What else needs doing?
-----------------------------
1) I see it needs to be cut, where and how much is good?
2) Programming? where and how much is good?
