congrats on the purchase.
That's a lot to throw down for a first camera

But I'm sure you'll be really happy with it
Yeah..I'm feeling like I made a mistake. We will see

Don't think of it as a mistake..think of it as an investment.

That's what I told myself too. I told myself to get a Rebel line dSLR, but ended up buying a 20D instead.

but, the D300 will be around another two years... so you're fine investing in that. plus, it'll still be usable a year or so after that until newer better sensors are being put in the D400's

I've shot with a 20D the last three years and can still take great looking photos with it. I finally upgraded because I, personally, outgrew the camera two years ago... I just couldn't justify the cost to upgrade

fwiw, a tip for the new guy trying to get into the game: my advice is to get a camera body that is a few yrs old and invest in the best lens you can get. a great lens will be with you a lot longer than a "today's top of the line" camera body.

great advice... and very true...
My lenses outlasted my old camera, and may possibly out last this new one.

Good luck with learning the ropes of your new camera and photo in general. Sounds like you have some really quick catching up to do

Thanks for the advice. Im thinking of selling the d300 and downgrading to a d200. I should get the camera tomorrow so we'll see.
