I have been lurking for a while trying to decided between an MR2, a Miata or the S2000. I saw a Yellow S2000 in Home depot carpark last weekend and my mind was made up.

Unfortunately I havent been having much luck finding an S2000 (2002 model) in the Bay area. My local dealer wants $40,000 and all the dealers that I have phoned within a 200 mile radius that will sell for MRSP say that their 2002 allocations are spoken for. Dealers are definitely willing to haggle on Miatas (below invoice) and on MR2's but they seem very snobby about S2000's.

Im in no rush and I still have find a dealer with one for me to test drive just to make sure they are as good as you guys claim .

Welcome.

And yes there is NO comparison to a MR2 and a Miata. Other than they are convertables.

i don't think it's them being "snobby". it's simple supply and demand. they don't make a lot of S2000s and the demand here in the Bay Area is very high.

if you want MSRP you might want to look at buying out of state.

Wow. I think this is the fourth "Hi, I'm new to the forum" post from the Bay Area in the last couple days!

Anyway, welcome aboard. Good luck getting your s2k. Don't pay over MSRP!!!!

You can always buy from out of state: Ohio Dealers Thread

Not to say they're cheapest in Ohio, but dealers here are pretty motivated. My dealer told me that he wouldn't be surprised to see the Suzuka and/or the Sebring/Red that they've got right now still be there when I'm ready to buy in March.....

You can easily get MSRP anywhere the winter actually means something, I suspect.....

I would suggest trying Honda dealers in the Sacramento area first before going out of state. I know a number of people on this board (myself included) bought s2000's from Elk Grove Honda in Sacto for MSRP.

Goodluck with your search. By the way, Blair Morrow who works at Elk Grove Honda is also an owner and a member of this s2K club.

I too bought my Suzuka S2k from Blair at Elk Grove Honda near Sac... Altough Blair did say they were backordered all the way till mid-summer....

Good luck... I had to go out of the BA for mine....

I'll give you a ride in mine and maybe let you drive it a mile or two if you're willing to come "all the way" to Pleasanton. Just send me e-mail using the mail icon on this message.

I've test driven a new Miata and a new MR2 and neither are on the same level of performance as the S2000, even ignoring the power difference. I could feel the chassis flex on the Miata and the MR2 is just a weird looking wimpy car with no storage space.

That's not surprising...

Just stay patient and wait for what you really want, you'll be much happier in the long run....
