Default Just bought a stock AP1

Hey! My name is Erica.... Last Sunday, I decided to buy my first car (2001 Silverstone). I think driving my friend's and bf's S2K made me want to get one... so here I am, with my own S2K to play with!

As you know, I am new to this forum... and I need some advice on replacing my oxidized plastic soft top. I want to get a glass soft top, any suggestions? advice? pricing on glass soft top and installation? Anyone around this area have experience in installing a glass soft top?? Any help is appreciated!!

Woot Woot for AP1 in Silverstone!

Welcome

Is your BF on the boards too? That's awesome that you both have one now & hope you guys can come out to the meets/events. Im in the same boat too with my other AP1 GPW, but mine is beyond repair as the plastic window is totally oxidized & cracked as well from putting the top down.

Typically, you can find used OEM soft tops in glass in good condition anywhere from $600-$900. That would include the frame & motors, you would pull out the old & drop in the new. Install time can take around 4-6 hours depending on how fast you can work on it. You can also just buy a replacement cloth/glass top from Robbins or other manufacturers. Theres a thread somewhere here in the Bay Area section with this information - maybe in the next 2 pages.

Chris (ics2ks) is going to be in the process of replacing his top soon. Might be a good experience for you to help/check out when he does the install to give you a better idea of what is involved.

EDIT: HERE is that link I was talking about above.

to add onto jp's post, you can also look into aftermarket glass tops that are cheaper, there is the robins top and ez-top. there around $500-600 new. as for install, get a few friends and do it yourself if you can. its about an 8hr job. shop will chop you for the install cost.

or do what i did, and went with a hardtop

+1 for the hardtop idea. Mugen replica is $1200 new and unpainted with good quality and fitment. OEM hardtop used will run you between $2000-$2500 used.
