Default Join the Speed Ventures S2000 Challenge!

Hi Bay Area folks!
Just getting the word out -- it's been a but slow ramping up, but the 2005 Speed Ventures S2000 Challenge is underway!

The Challenge is open to all S2000 drivers -- just "sign up" here (so we know where to class you):
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=274603

(Note: You can read the rules of this friendly competition here:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=274601 )

If you're a beginner, this is your chance to learn from some of the fastest S2000 drivers anywhere. With our new NOVICE classes, everybody's welcome, and you'll only be competing against your peers! And best of all, everyone who went to Cal Speedway is already in the points! (Of course, you don't have to have gone to Cal Speedway to join the fun now!)

Our next event is at Buttonwillow Raceway April 15th. It's a great track for the S2000 and a great track to learn on!

Hope you can join us, and see you at the track!

-John

I'm thinking about taking my S to Infineon (Sears Point) for the event on Apr 3rd. I tried out the Jim Russel Racing School there for a 1/2 day of track time in one of their open-wheeled race/training cars. it was A LOT of fun!!!

how much $ should we expect to spend for registration+safety gear, etc. this will be my first track event with my S... need to know how deeply this will bite into my wallet.

^ nm. I guess we're looking at $350 just to put rubber on their track. woah. that + any related safety equipment I'm guessing I'll need to buy (helmet? etc.) makes for a damn expensive day.

I might go watch though...

Helmet is a one-time cost; you have to think about it as a longer-term investment. I have an extra I can bring if you're really desperate (along with a clean balaclava so you don't have to feel "icky" about using it!). That's all the safety stuff you'll need. Otherwise, just check that you have fairly fresh brake pads and maybe get some DOT4 fluid.

Sadly, $350 ($370 with timing to participate in the Challenge) is cheap these days for a weekend day at Sears. But trust me -- it's worth every penny and then some!! Ahh, the Esses...the Carousel...the mighty Turn 10!! I'm drooling just thinking about it!!

So it's settled -- we'll see you there, right?

iCEE, as long as the SV site shows space available, you can register up to the day before, or even just show up and register on the spot.

Nobody, I wasn't at BW, but I suspect you're thinking of Prolene's car (Mugen CF hardtop, CF trunk, stripped interior, etc.). It's a very quick car, with a very quick driver.

can this be considered a "driver training" event? if-- god forbid-- someone wrecks their car on the track, I believe it has to be classified as some sort of "driver training" in order for insurance to cover it.

I'd hate to be making payments on an S2000 that's little more than a crumpled heap.

(sorry to get fatalistic, but these are real issues that I need to think through)
