Job Interviews
#11
i get approached by recruiters all the time, it's different from actually go in for an interview but it helps you gauge to see if it's something even worth interview for.
i let them give their 1 min spiel on what the job is about and ask them a couple questions.
then i jump straight into how much the salary range would be.
To be honest, it's not disrespectful to find out what the pay range is, in the end why would you jump to something else that's lower pay unless it's your passion. i always cut to the chase because spending more than 5~10 minute is a waste of time.
in terms of counter offer, i would just be honest, you have a job, you are making X dollar, just tell them you are happy where you are so you need incentive to leave. if you are making the same or less it doesn't make sense. Bigger companies may low ball but they are also the one that can pay out big that is if you got the skills and backgrounds they are looking for.
good luck on your pursuit

I couldn't agree more! I think it's one of the most asinine faux pas in life. It's like a woman with DD's breasts wearing super tight tank gets upset because people are looking at it. What is the #1's reason why most go to work? I'm certain it's not primarily because they're passionate about it.
Back on topic. I truly believe you shouldn't worry too much about losing something you never had. With that said, it's doesn't mean one should be careless or reckless on how they articulate that particular topic.
