JDM 4-pt roll bar questions
I'm thinking about installing a jdm 4-pt rollbar into my s and i was wondering if anyone has done this install?? You can flatten the stock bars with a hammer so i dont put too much faith into 'em. What(if any) plastics, or seats need to be removed for install? Does it interfere with the softtop operation or stock bars? Also is it possible to strap in a sparco 3-point harness to it? Any and all input is much appreciated

if you haven't read all the pro's and con's of having a roll bar in a street-driven car, I suggest you do it. good stuff in the racing forum FAQ
same with 3/4/5/6 point harnesses in any car

Well i don't have a degree in metallurgy and didnt pay enough attention in physics to give you a straight answer other than i just dont trust them. I believe that in the rare event of a flip that i would rather double up on the protection than not. plus it looks good.
On the street without a helmet, it'll make you less safe, every time. Why? You might be more safe from an extremely unlikely event of a rollover but you increase the risk of serious injury and death from an extremely common accident the rear end collision.
Why? It's all about clearance between your head and the bar itself. In a rear end collision the car is going to be coming forward while you may be whipped around including having your head go backwards relatively(i.e. bodies at rest tend to stay a rest etc). If your head is too close to the bar then there is a higher risk of contact. The proximity of the s2000 seat to the rollbars is far to close to give the generally requested distance between your head and bar. Padding the bar itself generally isn't good enough to provide protection. A helmet is really the best option. Which is why they are best on the track and not on the street.
What makes these injuries quite sneaky is that if you hit you head hard enough, you may feel fine, but have a slow bleed on the brain. That's the type of injury where you can feel fine, go to sleep and never wake up again.
That's the kicker for the roll bars. Yes it might make a rollover more safe, but it also tends to make rear end collisions less safe. Since you're more likely to get rear ended the net is a decrease in safety on the street(unless you roll around wearing a helmet when you drive).

Well CrazyPhuD, looks like we're going to have to design a partially removable roll bar for the s.. on a side note i've taken a look at the pros amd cons thx to playgrounds advice. I'm going to hold off on the roll bar; as this is my daily driver. Untill its a full track car, and i can afford an aston martin dd, i deem a rollbar an unecessary risk.
Thanks for your input fellas, much appreciated.
