i totally agree. i just heard from others that $100 is enough for a quality alarm install.
I live in the southbay but I'll give Custom Car Alarms and Sound Innovation a call to see how their prices are. thanks

and $100 should get you a decent BASIC alarm install, but if you want to add on options or hook up non-standard features offered w/the alarm, such as window roll up/down, auto start, back up siren(s) (i HIGHLY recommend getting one), etc, all of that can add up fast.
also, many places are not that keen on installing alarms not purchased from their shops. besides the fact that they don't make any $$$ off you, a lot of shops don't want to risk installing a faulty/defective alarm system, esp. since customers will always try to hold the installers/shops accountable when/if there are problems after installation.
btw, if you go to Custom Car Alarms, I'd suggest you go to the Pleasant Hill location. They do good work at their SF Honda spot too, but they do A LOT of fleet work for Honda, SC Ford, & other dealerships in the area. So you might not be able to get a slot for a while.
Sound Innovation is good too. My buddy, James, has been w/them for years & is one of the top mobile electronics installers in the US. He won a custom audio+alarm contest put on my Sony Car Audio USA & beat out a bunch of other top notch pro installers w/the system he put into his wife's old EG Civic Si hatchback.

don't skimp on installation.
having a quality install job is just as important as the quality of the alarm itself.
Sound Innovation in Hayward does excellent work too.

what kind of alarm are you thinking? what special features you want? if you want basic alarm, you can do it yourself. i have the wiring diagram of the central locking/keyless entry module, pm me if you need.
i added proximity sensor, new siren, strobes (when triggered) to the honda factory alarm.... it's pretty easy.
but yeah $350 for all the added features is not bad if you cant DIY.

my dad likes audiomobile, and he's pretty thrifty. but most places aren't too keen on installing alarms brought in by customers.
sound innovations isn't cheap either, it always seems like they're dropping a $30k system into a cayenne turbo. i got an alarm from them installed for $595. The alarm retails for around $295 but the dealer cost is half that or even a third of that. but ernie gave me some good advice, steered me away from an overrated product to something that was a better value/higher quality/more features, plus he figured out how to reconnect my gps tracking module. but if i was trying to save the most amount of pennies possible i would have went somewhere else
it turns out that alarms aren't that expensive, but installation is not something i'm willing to do(i wouldn't mind learning the hard way on a beater car, but my car isn't a beater yet), but of course now i'm poor so i might shop around now
