Default How/Where to best dispense of used motor oil?

(Where's a good place / What's a good way) to dispense of used motor oil. Places like Kragen and such take the motor oil but the ones closest to my apt (in Newark/Fremont) won't take the container (the container the new motor oil came in).....so then I'm left with an empty contaminated container and nowhere to put it

is there somplace I can leave my container filled with motor oil or have somebody pick it up?

I dunno about Newark\Fremont, but here in San Jose you call the recycling co. and they bring a container that looks like those 2 gallon jars of milk. You place the oil in and then on garbage day, they pick it up.

See if your local garbage\recycling co. does this

Dump the oil and take the container home and re-use it.

The Kragens around us will never take oil because they always say their container is full. I've had them tell me this sooo many times and they have never (not once) been able to take my oil.

Our local Jiffy Lube however will take it. You just fill out a little log sheet and dump it in a drum.

BFI, will send you an oil container if you ask for it (does look like a milk jug) then you just set it to the side of your recycle bin on garbage day... thats how i always did it, and never understood, why my friends went through the trouble of going to kragen... good luck
