On my 06, my fronts lasted 35k DD'ing and spirited runs in the mountains. Rears lasted 60k. I may be a lil hard on the brakes at times.

Will this DIY be for a brake pad/rotor change + bleed, too?

DIYs and asking people (like Mac) for advice on this site are the only way I've been able to get proper maintenance done on my car

Casey,

I drove up to La Honda to do a job in the geek squad bug yesterday... and boy that drive looks fun but man i can see why your brake pads would die so quick. lots of low speed cornering.

Hey dude, Mac's secret discussion was about how to clean the piston caliper thingys. It's very useful info, and he will post a DIY as soon as he has the time!

It is soooo fun! You have to slap a Geek Squad magnet on your S, and have the first Geek Squad S2000!

Casey, I just changed out my stock pads yesterday as part of prep for the next track day.

After ~5,000 miles (including my first two two track days), my rears were 0.5 mm above the metal wear indicator and had chunks missing from the edges and places in the middle. Fronts had maybe 3 mm left, had chunks missing from the edges, and were cracked down the center of the pad.

So like you, my rear pads were in worse shape than my fronts in terms of wear. All the calipers seemed to move freely, but I will clean them once I learn how (AHEM, MAC).

Swapped them out for XP10/XP8's and dedicated Centric rotors.

Damn 5k on your pads with the rears wearing faster than your fronts. Sounds like we have a similar situation. Yank the piston things on the calipers, clean the piston and the hole it goes into, and the baby rubber boot, them lube it up with something special. This advice is pending Mac's official write up.

Track days do wonders on stock pads. I can't even last a day if I use stock pads. Not a fair comparison.

Casey, you're local now. I can take a quick look if you want.

Ooo, I might take you up on that offer. We can keep in touch about the best time/day to do this sorta thing.
I get off work at 9PM each day, sometimes later.
