They're quite real. The builder/designer lives in Berkeley. . . his "bookshelf" speakers start at $20K. . . the Ultimates are listed at $229K a pair. . . ignore the fact that you can spend nearly that much on amplification for the suckers.

Nope, back when I wanted to get a Rotel amp the local stereo store only had NAD, which a lot of people think is equivalent. I think I would have been better off with the Rotel. Now I have a Classe amp which I really like.

I used to have Vandersteens but I built my own speakers in 1994.
Rotel and NAD were my final two choices. I actually had the NAD for a month but ended
up keeping the Rotel due to noise. The NAD amplifier had four fans across the bottom.
Both sounded great to me. I Have the PSB gold speakers wich I think are awesome for the money in a 3.1 setup.

Century Stereo has Rotel.

Well its all really up to you. All of these are good advice but just like most things like cameras, computers, cars, ect... there is a whole world of facts and function you can compare and argue about. Keep in mind even with super duper systems quality is only as good as the weakest link in the system, which sometimes turns out to be the audio CD or DVD itself. If you want to get yourself a good system there is nothing wrong with "mainstream" name brands. You pay a little more but the extra cost saves you the headache.

Besides if we bought everything for complete function we might as well bought a kia and stop buying and paying hundred and thousands of dollar for pieces of aluminum and plastic with the word "moogen" writen on it. Just my 2 cents.
