I find the OEM high beams bright and very effective during normal driving. Mine seem to light up the freeway easily. If yours aren't, perhaps they might be old or out of adjustment.
I just don't like how the high beams emit a different color spectrum light and because they are not HID the beam is less crisp, more washed out, and poisons the beautiful color of the low beams.
By design the high beams aren't going to be as crisp as the HID. The HID has a cover over them to make them crisp and to keep the light out of the eyes of oncoming traffic. Since the high beams functionality is basically the opposite of the HID, I'm not sure how you could expect them to not be "washed out".

Perhaps mount a couple of PIAAs on the hood. I kid of course

I see what you mean, thank you for explaining, sometimes I'm clueless about the technology behind these car parts. I'll probably aim to get some Kraegen ricer headlights then. At least the color will match the HID low beams better, and maybe with the added benefit of a bit more light output. I've got a horrid track record with aftermarket bulbs blowing out on me in <1 year, so I'm torn on this issue.

I already have two PIAAs under my hood, (but they are horns)!

I love Silverstar high-beams .. They didn't really seem to make a difference for the price paid, though. I also had Silverstar turn-signals. Back then, I used to waste money on the silliest things.

Get some silverstars. However, the brighter the halogen, the lower the life of the bulb...
