DAMN all those issues and you still paid his asking price of $14.5k???

I think your original offer of $12k was more on target - just to get those items replaced or repaired would easily run you another $2-3k.....

You must have really wanted the car - how's the condition of the softtop?

At least you got the best color

see ya around

No it wouldn't. If you're resourceful enough via the forums FS section, ebay, craigslist, you could get all that stuff replaced for under 1.5k. You're probably better off replacing the cd player anyways with an aftermarket one vs buying OEM.

Headlights would probably be your biggest expense if you plan on replacing. Otherwise just polish it to clear up the haze, remove and reseal the headlights. Time consuming yes, but it wouldn't cost you more than maybe a day's worth of work and the cost of sealant and polish.

Spark Plug Cover

If you search for s2000 spark plug cover on ebay, you get one listing for like 70 bucks.

Jack and Trunk Tools

Alpine Headunit with S2000 Harness. Plug and Play.

And that's not even trying to look for killer deals. Quick searches and those add up to what, $280? On the expensive side, you pay $1k for brand new headlights from like a dealership.

Headlights. Brand New. OEM.

You're looking at $1200 total. If you find them used, on the forums, online, whatever, you're probably going to pay about 700 or so for those headlights, on the high side. You'll come in under $1k in expenses to replace those parts. NO WHERE near 2-3k.

It was 14.5k. I offered 12 then 12.8 then 13.5 then even 14. They would not budge at all. they said they were firm on the 14.5 price. I looked at maybe 5-6 s2k's that week. This was the cleanest for the best price. Everything is still aligned properly it is just the liner in the bumper is kind of off because of missing tabs.

-as for the price being so so cheap. The place wasnt really a dealer, it was an AUTO BROKER. He had bought the car from an auction. It is a clean title, the previous owner just had it repossesed.

known problems/defects: Spark plug wire cover missing, cd player is broken, no spare tire, no jack, front headlights heavily hazed on top, and have some leak on the insides which will be a pain to repair/clean

so all those + it being an auction car = 14,500
just to chime in. you can probably get all of these items for only a couple hundred bucks. you just have to be patient and keep and eye out in the FS section. this stuff is usually cheap.
