HELP with out of STATE S2000
Hey Guys,
Need some info from you. I am planning to buy a brand new s2000 from Boston and get it register in California. DMV told me that if the S2000 not a 50 state model, i will need 7500 miles before i can register it. Can someone tell me if the S2000 are sold as 50 state or 48 state and California ONLY model...
thanks

Red,
How many miles was on your S2k when you register it in California? There is only a 7500 miles requirement to register any car from out of state. Same with motorcycle.
I am hoping that Honda only make the 50 state model for the S2000. If that the case, i have no problem registering a out of state S2000.
thanks for the input/

Repsol,
That's not true. I bought my car from New Jersey and had it shipped here. You will need to get a smog check and have DMV perform a VIN verification (takes 15 minutes with an appointment). After you do that, submit both sets of paperwork to your dealer, and he/she will (should, anyway) process your registration for you.

I am not sure what the 7500 mile requirement is about. I remember hearing about it - maybe if a car has more than 7500 miles is does need a smog check? Still wouldn't make sense.
I do know that they told me that I would have to have it smog checked before they issued a license plate. My miles were under 5000 at that time.

Do not worry. Just like Mossad had said, just get a smog check and go to the DMV for the paper work. If you are leasing the car, you will need some more additional documentation.

Red,
(As explained on another thread) the 7500 mile requirement is only for cars that are not already certified as meeting the California emissions requirements. There is no mileage restriction for cars that come with stickers indicating that they meet the California emissions levels (i.e., all S2000's).
