Default Help! Notebook Screen Screwed

Alright, i had some water marks in my sony sz and decided to open it up, no problem, i cleaned it. But when i was putting everything back some how i accidentally cut a piece of green tape that supposidly gives power to part of the screen, So now one side of my screen has no light and therefore no picture. Im fawked. Does anyone know is this is repairable and for how much? Any recommended place?

Thanks,
Tony

If you know any engineers (or EECS students), they may be able to solder it back together for you, though I'm not sure that would work. Otherwise, you might be able to take it to a local computer store that custom builds computers and they may be able to get the part and replace it for you. Is there an authorized Sony service center in SJ/South Bay? If so, they should be able to replace it too - but it might be a bit $$$. That sucks...

See post below mine - I like his advice better! Easier and makes sense too.

Just go buy the replacement cable, its a ribbon cable, not much. It uses a push connector to connect it from the screen to the motherboard. Just open up the screen and the laptop and take it out and get the new connector in. Takes like 10 minutes to do the whole thing depending on the laptop. But yeah just look up your laptop model number and buy the replacement ribbon cable.

Oh I see, its just all on the screen itself, where are you located? If you want I can take a look and help you out then and there. I live in Stockton, but then I often go south to Tracy//Modesto and north to Sacramento. Just start off by giving me the model number of the laptop here.

And one thing, its not a power cable, it's actually the cable that delivers picture. Anyways I look again and I don't think that theres a connector for that green ribbon on the lcd itself. You probaly going to have to replace the LCD screen. It's not expensive actually. Can range from 30(ebay) to 200(oem replacement). Takes like 10 minutes to replace the whole screen.
