Default Help! Need stock rear wheel/tires any condition

Any help here would be appreciated.

My car has developed a significant drivetrain shake/rattle while under acceleration, over 40+ MPH, only while in any gear. But here's the deal. I took it into Oakland Honda and they immediately blamed my Invidia Exhaust, simply because it was the easy way out. So I switched back to stock, and, of course, it wasn't the exhaust (which has always been perfect).

So I take it back to a different dealer, SF Honda. Now they see the non-OEM size rear tires on stock rims (245 Kuhmos instead of Bridgestone 225's, just like TireRack recommends), and blame the shaking on the non-OEM size rear tires (they're about 6 months old, perfect condition, matched, and recently rebalanced). So now it's up to me to find a set of 225 rears to put back on so they can see it's not the tires.

Finances are really tight, and I can't see replacing my perfectly good Kuhmo's on this misguided path.

Does anybody have a stock set of rear rims with 225 tires mounted that I could borrow, rent or ?something? Or does anybody have a worn set of OEM rear tires without rims that I could borrow or have? I'd be open to any creative deals here to help me solve this problem. I'm a Mac Computer Technician, and would trade parts or services if that'd help you.

Thanks for ANY responses. Call me anytime; David - 510.864.1005 (Home) or 415.290.4428

My service advisor seemed not to know anything about this sizing issue.

This is exactly the impression I've gotten so far. If I'd have know Honda was this way, I never would have bought one. I had an Audi TT before, where Audi covered EVERYTHING, including a clutch, wiper blades, brake pads & rotors. No problem, no arguments, no hassle. They even covered oil changes. Plus they always provided a free loaner car, and washed my car during every service visit. The Audi was nowhere near as fast, but the Audi was much nicer... Sorry folks.

I suspect I'm going to have to buy another set of new rear tires...

Please! Anybody have another solution for me? I big thanks in advance!

I saw someone in the bay area forum was selling OEM's. You should contact him/her.

I don't really need bare wheels, I need a set of rear tires. I just figured that somebody had bought different aftermarket wheels, and might have their stock rear wheels w/already mounted OEM rear tires laying around. Then I'd like to borrow them for a day or two. I'll come get them with my truck, leave a deposit or something, then return them after a day or two. There would only be a few miles put on them, just enough for the Honda mechanic to road test the car.

I'm trying to avoid the cost of buying a new set of rear tires for just a short road test.

Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance. - David

Take it to Hopkins. They won't give you any BS over tires.

sad but true....i'm sure the luxury nameplate has much better customer service.... (I know my Acura did.....)
but you do pay for that customer service with the higher purchase price

The dealers you went to are idiots. The exhaust? My god, that's just lame. And now the tires...jesus. I think most consumers know when they're being jerked around, but they are just not mechanically-equipped to argue back. The simplest way around this is to just ask, "can you explain to me exactly how X caused Y?"
In the meantime, do what Asura says--take it to Hopkins.

Do you mean Larry Hopkins Honda in Sunnyvale or Steve Hopkins Honda in Fairfield, CA?

Thanks for the suggestions.
