One time some deviant teens jacked my go kart. Here's what I did to get it back (+ cash on top for repairs).
1. Contact the "buyer" of the stolen item and inform them that you know, with 100% certainty, that they are stolen from you.
2. Threaten a civil law suit and and demand the name and source of the stolen parts.
3. If this guy didn't jack them, I'm sure he'd be wiling to point out the person who did in an attempt to save his own ass. I'm sure that will get some of your questions answered.

I believe stolen property is returned even if the buyer unknowingly bought it as stolen. They are just not prosecuted. They would have to prove that he knew it was stolen property.

If you bought the tires from a reputable dealer, they have tire "date codes" on the inside you can use (sort of like a VIN number).
however to do that you would have to get a court order....
Plus if he unknowingly bought stolen merchandise I don't think he can be cited so unless you are willing to pay him what he paid, don't expect him to give you the wheels/tires back. (just a guess as I'm definitely no expert).

if you buy stolen items from like craigslist you can get into big trouble even though you didn't know it was stolen. Happened to a buddy of mine that bought wheels off of craigslist and found out it was stolen. The guy pressed charges on my friend and he lost out on getting his money back and had to pay a hefty fine. thats PA law. im sure its the same for cali tho
I don't see how you can get in trouble if you had no clue......does not make sense

well what he said above law doesn't always make sense, but if you buy stolen goods from ebay, ebay actually has something that protects buyers from stuff like that. Kinda screws the seller over if the person can get proof that it was his stuff that the seller was selling haha.
