If you'e interested in taking your S to the track and want to learn the fundamental skills to drive confidently in Open Track Events... Read On...
This is a great opportuninty for those that have little to no track experience
May 5-6 Spring Sprint/Driving School Thunderhill Raceway Park Willows, CA
Driving School
The Driving School is a half-day introductory course which teaches fundamentals of Open Track driving. It is NOT a racing school. The objective is to teach the skills necessary to drive confidently in Open Track events. This will be accomplished by a series of driving exercises, demonstration laps with instructors and lots of lapping sessions behind the wheel of your own car.
We are offering a school-only half-day price for those wanting to get their feet wet at a low price. Half-day entrants will have the option of upgrading to the full-day or full-weekend by paying the fee difference at the track during the event.
Enrollment is open to anyone with a valid driver

This is a Nor Cal Shelby American Automobile Club (NCSAA) event.
In open track they run 4 groups:
Yellow = Novice / Beginner Group
Red.....= Intermediate / Fast
Green..= Advanced / Faster
Blue....= Expert / Fastest
Each group will have 30-40 cars each.
Depending how the day goes will determine how many times each group
gets to run... Saturday morning will be Driving School and Open Track
in the afternoon. So I am guessing maybe 3 runs.
what time is the afternoon for open track only on saturday? and how long do you get?

You should also post this is Sacto forums - I'm strongly considering it.
My only concern is the possible risk to my new car due to accidents - how often have these happened in the past at Thunderhill? I've heard it's the most forgiving course around NorCal and great for beginners.
Thanks!

I've personally seen very few accidents in the 4 years I've been doing HPDE/Time Trials with NASA, though I can't speak for Shelby club since I've never run with them, but I would assume the case would be the same.
Thunderhill is definitely a very good track for beginners since there is tons of runoff room and several corners were you can push the car and get away with it. Now that being said, anything is possible if you do something stupid.
