EDIT:

Here's my photo-montage from the race:

==============

Not sure if any of you have been to a hydroplane race before, but they are quite spectacular. The H1 Unlimited hydroplanes are coming to Sacramento in the end of May 2013, and if you are into big horsepower and fun racing, this is an event you should consider checking out. The boats have upwards of 3,000 hp (yes, three thousand horse power) and can hit up to 200mph.

Details about the series can be found here:

More info from wikipedia:
These 30 foot, 6,800 lbs boats run primarily with a T-55 L7 turbine engine (used during the Vietnam era in the Chinook helicopter) capable of up to 3000 horsepower with current restrictions. The T-55 L7 powerplant creates high speed rotation which is transferred through a gearbox at around 50% reduction of turbine to propeller RPM. Unlimited hydroplanes are capable of speeds of 200+ MPH on the straight-a-ways and qualifying average lap speeds range from 130-165 MPH. Modern hulls are constructed of composite materials such as honeycomb aluminum, fiberglass, laminated resin and carbon fiber.
I'm planning to drum up some old nostalgic times from childhood when I used to spend weekends in the pits at the hydroplane races around California following my dad's APBA Western National Championship hydroplane! DNA FTW!

They look like S2000's with a big J's Racing wing and a 1000+ hp 2jz Supra engine.

That looks badass

I was at Folsom the last time they were there, am I dating myself?
I can't believe its been 46 years. They used WWII airplane engines back then.
