Default Got ticket: Headlights too low?!?!

Okay, some jerk pulled me over, said my lights were too low, and I had no front plate. I'm not going to argue the front plate, but headlights too low? I'm lowered, yes, but supposedly only like an inch and a half at most. The law says the headlights must be 22" high, and the cop said they were only 19". I just checked them, on LEVEL ground (it wasn't level when the cop checked them) and it was 20" to the bottom of the headlight assembly. I told him that I did lower the car, but not THAT much, not even close, but he said "OH well...." pretty much said it was my problem and he didn't give a shit. Told him they must have been less than that from the factory but he blamed it on the "low profile wheels" which are actually bigger in overall diameter than my stock wheels I think.

Anyone have this happen? I'll have to put back the stock springs I guess, and I guess stock rims (which have victoracers on them right now)...

As per one of the Mags, either SCC or SS the measurement is the ground to the center of the light. That distance is suppose to be 22". After I read the article I went outside to measure mine and it was 22.5" and my car is not that low.

Did he give you a ticket?

That sucks....maybe you should do some investigating and find out what the law is. If it is the center of the headlight assembly instead of the bottom part of the headlight asssembly then you should be fine, which I believe is the law. Not sure where you can dig up that info though. I know I threw out the mag that had the article in it.

24400. During darkness, every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, shall be equipped with at least two lighted headlamps, with at least one on each side of the front of the vehicle, and, except as to vehicles registered prior to January 1, 1930, they shall be located directly above or in advance of the front axle of the vehicle. The headlamps and every light source in any headlamp unit shall be located at a height of not more than 54 inches nor less than 22 inches.

If you'll notice, it says the light sources. that would indicate the center of the HID emitter.

Oh yeah, check the ticket, if he didn't put 24400 on it, you can get the whole thing (front plate included) thrown out.
