While I would agree that doing 150 on a public street is dangerous, this isn't like he's getting strapped into a rocket and being sent into space. Some of you are making this out to be more than it really is.
It could be costly if your braking from 90+ mph as your approaching a corner, your tires are bald and there is dew on the asphalt

Were are no corners on 505.

It would be costly if you were doing 25 mph and you swear to miss a cat and ran into a semi.

did I mention the fact that what you're talking about doing is a felony which makes you eligible for Federal pound-you-in-the-ass prison?
Can anyone second this? I knew driving in excess of 100 mph was a misdemeanor (most traffic offences are just infractions), but I didn't think it was a felony.

it's a felony if you cause an accident I believe. otherwise a misdemeanor if you're caught simply doing 100+ mph.

No, driving in excess of 100 is an infraction.

22348b Speed over 100 MPH.

However, it's a 2 point infraction.

Not unless you hit someone and get charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Yup, I got a 138 in a 65 when I was in college. I do know personally, as well. $4000 a year in insurance for a $5000 car sucks.
