there's all sorts of food so that's still pretty general
I dunno where the prison is, but stick around Union Square/Embarcadero/North Beach and you'll have tons to do and everything you're looking for is in all those areas. Good luck.

You can hit Harris' if you are looking to have a very nice dinner. The Stinking Rose is good if you like food with lots of garlic. You can go to Ikes Place and/or Tommys Joynt for a BOMB sandwich. I just heard Giordano Brothers may be even better for sandwiches. You should check out the view from Coit Tower. Drive a car (or walk) down Lombard which is supposedly the "crookedest street" in America. Go down to the Wharf and eat super fresh seafood from the street vendors then walk up to Ghiradelli Square where you can get chocolate and shop at some of the stores. Go shopping and walk around Union Square. They may be putting up their Christmas stuff early like many other companies. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge just to say you did. You can go to the Steinhart Aquarium and the Academy of Science. Take a stroll through Golden Gate Park DURING THE DAY (not at night for sure). Hit the Japanese Tea Garden at the park. Go to the Cliffhouse and have lunch while watching the waves crash against the rocks below you. Its right on the water. The SF Zoo isnt too far away from that.
There are so many things to do in SF it's crazy. I hope any of these suggestions help.
