Default Gauging Interest - S2k Sierra Pass Drive

Who: YOU!! Please post in this thread and let me know if you'd be interested in participating. If you are interested in helping plan and organize, please PM me. I do plan on letting our brethren in Sacramento and Central Valley get in on this. If we get more than 15-20 drivers signed up and committed, I'll get the word further out.

What: A sierra pass drive (I'm thinking CA-108*), an overnight stay in Reno, a group dinner (depending on size, etc.), and drive back over another pass**. More activity options as interest coalesces.

When: Seeing as this would be a Sierra pass drive, AND an El Nino year, expect the earliest time to be the second weekend of June, probably later. reference

Where: Specifically, what hotel/center would host us? I believe that any one of the larger resorts would have enough secure parking, right-sized food options, and generally convivial atmosphere to have a great time. If you are in the hospitality industry and/or have acquaintances in the hospitality industry in Reno/Tahoe, please PM me privately.

Why: You, your car, your passenger, elevation, mountains, Reno, food, booze, gambling, bad decisions, and a bunch of other folks who are crazy enough to join us.
Guidelines:
1. Keep it fun.
2. One reason I'm in for Reno is that we can get rooms that will fit nearly everybody's budget. Split a room; knock yourself out.
3. Like #2, decent food, decent price, something possibly for everybody.
4. Choices, Choices, Choices

**Return trip will likely be dependent on your partying level. Be awesome, but don't be stupid.

Got to wait till the snow melts. 108 gets up to around 9800' and they don't plow it. Cindy and I love the high passes, we do them on our bikes and S. 89 over to 395 is also closed now but if it doesn't snow and it warms up all the passes should open up in a three or four days. 4, 108, 120 are all closed but 88 is open.
If we get a big storm with a lot of snow you will have to wait till the spring of '16.

For the rooms, I like Priceline. We got a room at the John Ascuaga's Nugget hotel in Sparks on a weekend for $19 a night, we stayed three nights. If you look, Sparks has only one 3 1/2 star hotel on P/L in sparks that has a 7+ rating. Then go to the name your own price and P/L has a 3 1/2 star, 7+ rating hotel in Sparks. It has to be the John Ascuaga's Nugget hotel and if you get it for $19 or $20 that's a cheap night at ANY hotel. One more thing, P/L can up your star rating(like going from a 3 star to a 3 1/2 star) but they can't give you a 3 star if you bid on a 4 star hotel. I've had good luck with P/L

Thanks for the tip, but ideally we'd go in on a group rate and try and get some group discounts, not even accounting for the folks who might gamble at the venue. In general though, even the nicest big places in Reno (Silver Legacy, Peppermill) are still at a price most of us can afford. . . and if you can't, you can still split a room or do things I as a moderator probably shouldn't condone.
