Gas Milage issues
#12
do you do mostly city or highway driving? people who get higher mileage typically drive mostly on the freeway. i, for one, almost only drive city since most of my clients are local. for a full take (10 gallons), i just barely hit 200 when the light goes on. i've been driving fairly aggressively lately and i'm at half with 84 miles, which be around 17 mpg when i need to fill up.
when i'm trying to conserve gas, i get it up to 5th/6th gear as quickly as possible with shifting under 3...if you're holding a gear above 3, i'd recommend to shift

Maybe it's got nothing to do with your engine, but is from the drivetrain.
Have you changed your tranny and/or diff fluid lately?
I'm assuming you bought the car used. It's possible the previous owner never changed out the tranny & diff fluid. Older fluid can get thick and sludgy, which can take more energy to move.
Also what kind and size tires are you using. If you're using a tire with exceptionally high rolling resistance, your mileage could be affected. When I changed tires on my 4runner, my mileage dropped 2 mpg.
Have you tried resetting the ECU?

You know I think the 2.2 engine is more fuel efficient, becuase I get at least 26mpg on my 05 VS my friend's 02 which only can get 20mpg. Don't you guys 04 + owner agree? But compare to my CRX Si which is nothing. (I get 39mpg!!!!!! for it)

Yeah, I know I need to change out the tranny/diff fluid. Because like you said it can make it more sluggish. I am running stock size tires, with 30% P7000 on the rear and 90% wynster? I the front.
I'm getting new tires ASAP.. I'm broke .
I have reset the ECU, because I just put gauges in (that came with the car) so that's when it was done (about 2 weeks ago).
And arrrmand, you said that's all you get and your car is fine? 'Cause if that's so.. then I'm not too worried, because that's ABOUT where I'm at.
Oh, the reason I don't take it to a shop is because I have auto shop in highschool.. and my teacher is not an idiot. He's owned is own shop, and was shop forman at Central Chevrolet. And I'm sure is just as compodant as any other mechanic.
One last thing, there's no gas leak because there's nothing on the ground. Viper told me about how it could evaporate before hitting the ground, but there's not way to check it because the fuel lines are in the frame rails.
Thanks for all the help (and making me feel like crap by telling me how good of gas milage you get).

I get 30 around town...
Seriously guys, I want to know what to do, not what your gas milage is.
Like i said, it would help if one of you could drive/look at my car...
But then again, that takes work, and I'm probably even lazier than all of you
