My car felt much better when I switched from Mobil 1 to Castrol Edge (both fresh changes).
I've read that some people don't think it's possible to feel a difference, but it definitely felt better to me. And it wasn't a placebo

I bet even 10 hp extra wouldn't be noticed.

To be the devil's advocate, I wonder if 10 less HP would be noticed?
Or, would ten less horsepower be noticed, if you put on a HP-losing part, but told the owner it was gaining ten HP.

I think an everyday steady driver wouldn't. A regular hard driver or track driver may just feel it. But 10 hp plus or minus would only chnage 0-60 by about 0.1-0.2 sec I'd say. Could you feel that amount of difference when put your foot down? Maybe a good track driver could who knows the car and circuit well.

I've probably never done a 0-60 pull in my car.

Oh man... lol this debate comes up every year...
The "felt" difference is probably the audible difference from fresh oil going in. I mean judging from what comes out and what's going in, I don't think anyone would disagree that fresh oil is slicker at the very least. Will you gain power from switching oil? no... Will conventional, blends, or synthetic from a reputable oil-make damage your car? no.. Are there better oils suited for the needs of our cars? yes. Worth the premium? depends on what you use your car for.
I have run mobil, royal purple, valvoline, castrol, gas station quaker brand, etc. In my limited experience none of them were better than others. I currently run valvoline synthetic because I always find coupons/rebates that stack to make it under 5$ for an oil change (5qt oil + filter).
