Default Fuel stabilzer?

We're going to take a nice long ride today and then put the car up for the winter.

For years when I put my summer rides away the drill has been to top off the gas tank and after driving home the 8 miles, add StaBil in the to fill the volume created, run the car for 5 minutes and that's it until early May.

I've been wondering what I'm buying with the StaBil besides peace of mind ( which is now gone anyway since the election) or actual protection for the car.

I'm going without it this year.( I'll still top off the tank)

Any opinions on this reckless behaviour?

Probably won't notice a difference, but for a few dollars why be so cheap?

Is just that... a " reckless behaviour".

Just for closure....

Started the car after storage ( w/o StaBil)...

Wouldn't fire at first, then the engine raced, the Vtec blew out and made a hole in the hood and the diff fell out on the garage floor...

Actually, the car fired right up and has run flawlessly.

Typically good gas is good for 9-12 months. Octane does drop. A stabilizer is safety.
