I've been driving manual since I was 16 also, and it always feels foreign every time I get into an automatic car. I think in a manual car you have more control over shifting, accelerating, etc... and I definitely enjoy that
On a side note.... I have driven a 545i, which has paddle shifters. It's weird to shift but not have to depress a clutch, lol!

I think in England the law requires all who apply for a driver's license must learn and take the test in a standard car.
So if you can drive a stick, you can drive an auto. that's how it should be. But i took my test with an auto because i didnt know how to properly drive stick yet
