Thanks guys (and gals) I just got back from a spin about 1/2 hour ago. At 31 degree's right now, I didn't get very far. Even with gloves, my hands turned red, and hurt for about 10 minutes, but they are back to normal now
I appreciate being inside my warm house right now. I will post a pic of my bike sometime soon.

Yay~ I bet you are excited about it! When are you going to take it out to Milpitas and show us?
If I can get a Thursday or Friday off, it would be fun to take a ride down to the S. Bay on the R1. I usually get Sunday and Monday off, so if something develops on one of those two days, that would work for me as well.
I'm in the business of hospitality, so I really need to be at the resort on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night's so I can bring home some scrilla.

how much would it be to start off?
I have seen them on Craigslist for anywhere between $4,900-$6,800. I have seen bikes with between 15-30k miles going for $5,500-$6,500. My bike (a 2000) model currently has 5,585 miles and I paid less than 5k for it. It is pretty clean, and I got a great deal on it. It just needs two tires. It's prolly not safe to take it to Milpitas until I get two tires, or at least a back tire.

whts a good bike to start off on.
The MY 2000 R1 has a very wide power band. It literally starts to pull from just above idle. The power comes on very smoothly. The fact that it has so much torque down low, there is no need to ring it out all the time. It can be easily cruised on the highway at 55, 65, or 75 mph in 5th or 6th gear. The fact that it has such a wide power band, some refer to the R1 as a one gear motorcycle. If you want to pass, you dun't have to change gears. This is nice for commuting.
The newer bikes on the market will be on the higher end of the spectrum. MY 02, 03, 04 go for around $7,000-$7,500. Like I said, my bike only has 5,585 miles on it, so I got an awesome bike at a very reasonable price. It's never been dropped, has no scratches, and it is very mechanically sound.
I need to be really careful on this thing.

yea i talked to my friend and he says that an r6/600cc bike is more than enough power to start off. rather than the 1000cc/r1 bike.
Dun't get all crazy and $hit and respect the machine and you will be just fine
I could never get tired of being able to accelerate from 75-95 in like 1-2 seconds.
The main thing is, you really have to watch out for cars on these things.
