Our car doesn't have struts, it has shocks. You don't need to chance both if one is damaged. I would definitely get a second opinion. Sounds like this guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

If you bent the shock, then there might also be damage as well to the lower A-arm as that is where the shock is mounted to.
