Really sorry to hear. Hopefully there isn't any structural damage and the car isn't totaled.

Talked to the shop and they aren't talking numbers yet but said they were hopeful they could fix things. It's funny, everyone who sees it gushes over it and says how sad it is that it got smashed.

I'm assuming you have full coverage. In that case, you should hope that it's totaled. Even if it isn't and is repaired, things will never be the same. It's best to start over on a clean slate.
