Equinox restaurant at the top of the Hyatt in SF. AVOID and save your money
#1
I had gotten some $25 off certificates from Restaurant.com for only $3 each, and I had heard about the rotating restaurant at the top of the Hyatt in SF, so I figured for $25 off, even if the food wasn't that great, it's still a significant amount off.
Wrong.
I ordered something called a "Hanger Steak" which was really 4 or 5 small beef cubes on a bed of mac-n-cheese ($29). It didn't come with ANY vegetables, so I asked for some. I got a side of 3 steamed asparagus spears and 3 steamed carrots ($5). My girlfriend had some roasted beet salad with goat cheese, fairly good. ($10). 1 ICED TEA ($4.75?!). Dessert was a small warm brownie with vanilla ice cream on top ($9). On top of that they sneak in some service charge of $10 for I don't know what?! (I should've NOT tipped the guy, I guess.) Even AFTER the $25 off certificate, it was a huge rip-off off at $57.66 incl the waiter's $10 tip that I shouldn't have given (he was fair, at best).
The novelty of being in a rotating restaurant wears off pretty quickly when you realize that the view is only nice about 1/3rd of the time, and that you're paying a ridiculous premium for it.

(I'm actually seeking a refund on the remaining 3 certificates because I'll never go back to Equinox. That said, if you *do* find a restaurant that you want to go to, check out Restaurant.com to see if they have a $25 off certificate. Most of the time they cost $10, but once in a while they run a promo and the $25 off certificate only costs $3, which is a pretty stellar deal... unless you're going to Equinox. mingster had posted a thread about these deals a while back)
(aside: Greens Restaurant is even MORE expensive and over-hyped. avoid both these places. jeez I seem to have a knack for finding the expensive rip-off restaurants of the Bay Area. )

I was just there last Friday night. I agree with you on the price issue, everything is overpriced up there.
However, my food was actually pretty good, and yes, it did come with vegetables, hehe.
I had the sea bass and my g/f had some kinda beef medallion plate. Both were decent, but not worth the price.......
I looked on my receipt, and I did not get charged a $10.00 service fee......that would bother me. I would inquire about that charge.
Sorry for your bad experience.....
