Edison's father is part of the triads as well, and was in great debt with another part of the triads, so there's a strong belief that the photos were released due to Edison's father's lack of paying his debts.
A connecting rumor is that Edison KNOWS exactly who released his photos. Those people also belong to the triads, so if Edison were to release this information to the police, the police would go after the suspects. On the other hand, the triads would come after Edison for ratting them out.
This is also linked to a reason why Edison wanted a 24 hour protection in a secret location in Canada to investigate and testify as a WITNESS rather than as a victim.
This kinda shit happens all the time in HK. Triads, money, and ransom.
