Default Empty parking lots to practice in?

Most of the high performance driving books recommend practicing in large, empty parking lots. Where do we go about finding these? Most parking lots in the Bay Area are full of people all the time.

I think this is doable in most areas of the US... in the bay area... eh...

places like Fry's electronics and what not at late night? I know some folks who do autox just for kicks in that sort of parking lots...

I used to go to (minor league) baseball stadium's parking lots back in the East Coast. I never been to a game here before so I don't know if you can go to the 49ers' or Raiders' parking lot or not. The only thing that bothered me was the light poles.

You can also find a twisty road and go a few miles faster than the speed limit to get a feel for the turns and then increase your speed by 1 or 2 miles each time until you feel the car to slide. Do this on different turns and it'll give you an idea how fast your car can go around them.

Exit ramps works too. Just don't go too fast and increase your speed a little each time until you feel the tail a little loose. Then take a friend and scare him a bit by drafting onto the highway
