Driving the S to Tahoe in Summer
Anyone done it? Are the roads friendly for a lowered car? It'll have a pretty fresh paint as well so if it's anything that'll demolish the S then I can just opt to take the gf's not-so-fun tsx.

I've driven mine up there many times. Just be prepared for the lack of power, due to the high altitude.
I remember the condition of the roads were less than desirable when I drove up there last winter. Way too many potholes and stretches of deteriorated road for my liking. But I guess that's a hazard in any region where snow is a factor.

It's not too bad. I did the drive a few times in the past couple of months. There's maybe some sections that aren't completely smooth, but for the most part the road isn't too bad. It's probably more like 280/680 instead of 101 pre paving.

thx for the feedback! will probably end up driving the S. i hear it's pretty scenic...hopefully not a lot of traffic during labor day wknd

Do you plan on taking the Rubicon trail to get there or something?
The "roads" in question are full on highways (80 or 50, i prefer 50), you have nothing to worry about. Just use the same common sense regarding rocks and holes as you would on highways here in the bay area.
Tahoe and Yosemite are the two "long haul" trips my gf and I make in the s2k during the summer. Anything longer like LA and we prefer her acccord.
You will love the high speed sweeping turns, but there are many chp on both 80 and 50, and there will be a sh!tload of traffic.

for the record, i wasn't anticipating gravel, but rather just lots of potholes and damaged roads from the snow chains and what not. drove it plenty of times in the winter, but never could properly assess whether it's lowered s2000 friendly.

I-80 can be rough in some areas due to all the big rigs that chew up the road. Hwy 50 to south shore is a nice drive. Bring some water b/c you will get dehydrated in the sun w/ the altitude.
